The MEDITONE PHYSIO 8 has been developed by Ultratone Scientific Instruments Ltd. in consultation with leading neuromuscular medical research groups. It represents thirty years of pioneering experience in the field of muscle stimulation. The unit is simple to operate, yet provides the therapist with all the controls needed to apply a wide range of effective treatments. The use of microprocessor technology allows the unit to deliver safe and precisely controllable stimulation.
The use of Neuro-Muscular Stimulation (NMS) has been rapidly increasing, due to revolutionary discoveries in the understanding of neuromuscular physiology, and developments in micro-electronic engineering which have provided clinicians with the tools to exploit these new findings for the benefit of their patients. Four main types of treatment have emerged in this expanding field:
- Traditional NMS is a well-established application used by physiotherapists for exercising and strengthening muscles that cannot be exercised voluntarily because of trauma or excessive pain.
- Functional Electrical Stimulation is used to activate paralysed muscles. In the proper conditions, patients have been able to stand and walk.
- Electrical stimulation has been shown to change muscle fibres affected by disease into a more resistant type, allowing the treatment of previously intractable conditions.
- Pain suppression can be achieved through transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, now commonly known as TENS, by modifying nerve signals returning to the brain and increasing endorphin levels.
Every unit is supplied in a custom carry case complete with a full range of accessories which include eight 15" straps and two 10" straps to help position the treatment pads: eight large (3" diameter) and four small (2" diameter) conductive rubber electrodes and a fully comprehensive Instruction Manual.
A range of Optional Accessories are available to complement the units. These include the Facial Accessory which exercises the face muscles and can be plugged in to a special socket, and a specially designed mains adaptor.
